<h1>Perforce UK Users Group</h1>
<p>The Users Group has been set up to provide a forum for Perforce-related discussions and is open to anyone.</p>
<p>The Users Group complements the Perforce <a href="http://maillist.perforce.com/mailman/listinfo/perforce-user">user community mailing list</a>, the Perforce <a href="http://public.perforce.com/guest/robert_cowham/german-user-group/index.html">German Users Group</a> and the Perforce Software <a href="http://www.perforce.com/perforce/conf2005/index.html">User Conference</a>.</p>
<h2>User Group Meeting</h2>
<p>The independent Perforce UK Users Group held its inaugural meeting on October 14 2004 at the offices of <a href="http://www.ttpcom.com">TTPCom plc</a> near Cambridge.</p>
<p>We intend to hold meetings once or twice a year at different locations around the UK. If you can provide a venue for the meeting, please contact the organisers.</p>
<h2>Review</h2>
<p>The first meeting was attended by 19 people from 14 companies and was generally considered to be a success. <a href="perforce0002.jpg" type="image/jpeg" onclick="window.open('perforce0002.jpg');return false" title="Click for photo"><img src="camera.jpg" width="24" height="18" border="0" alt="Click here for a photo." /></a></p>
<p>The event began with an introduction by Dave Robertson of Perforce Software Europe. Dave gave an overview of the history of Perforce in Europe and discssued some of the current activities that Perforce is engaging in around Europe. <a href="perforce0001.jpg" type="image/jpeg" onclick="window.open('perforce0001.jpg');return false" title="Click for photo"><img src="camera.jpg" width="24" height="18" border="0" alt="Click here for a photo." /></a></p>
<p>Peter "Pute" Jackson presented the <a href="sites.ppt">results</a> of a questionnaire that had been sent out ahead of the meeting to all the delegates. This allowed the delegates to get a sense of what kinds of Perforce sites were represented at the User Group.</p>
<p>Two back-to-back presentations on Agile Software Development were then presented by two Perforce Consulting Partners.</p>
<p>Robert Cowham of Vaccaperna presented on "<a href="http://www.bcs-cmsg.org.uk/events/e20041012/Cowham-CMSG2004-10-12-AgileSCM_p
pt.pdf">The Agile Difference for SCM</a>" and Steven Vance of Stellar Advances presented on "<a href="vanceagile.ppt">Configuration Management and the Principles and Values of Agile Software Development</a>"</p>
<p>Sally Page of Symbian gave a heart-felt presentation on the importance of having a Perforce disaster recovery plan in her presentation, "<a href="bad_dr_day.zip">Bad DR Day</a>" <a href="perforce0003.jpg" type="image/jpeg" onclick="window.open('perforce0003.jpg');return false" title="Click for photo"><img src="camera.jpg" width="24" height="18" border="0" alt="Click here for a photo." /></a></p>
<p>Richard Brooksby of Ravenbrook and Pute presented a case study on Perforce best practice in use at Symbian in their presentation "<a href="http://www.ravenbrook.com/doc/2003/03/06/changing-how-you-change/">Changing How You Change</a>." <a href="perforce0004.jpg" type="image/jpeg" onclick="window.open('perforce0004.jpg');return false" title="Click for photo"><img src="camera.jpg" width="24" height="18" border="0" alt="Click here for a photo." /></a></p>
<p>Peter Anderson of TTPCom then led a discussion on what improvements the User Group would like to see in Perforce. This was based on <a href="anderson.ppt">his own views</a> from working with Perforce at TTPCom. <a href="perforce0005.jpg" type="image/jpeg" onclick="window.open('perforce0005.jpg');return false" title="Click for photo"><img src="camera.jpg" width="24" height="18" border="0" alt="Click here for a photo." /></a></p>
<p>Finally, Dave Robertson and Tony Smith of Perforce Software took Q & A from the floor.</p>
<h2>Next Meeting</h2>
<p>We are looking to hold the next meeting sometime in early 2005, hopefully to coincide with a preview of the next major release of Perforce.</p>
