bsw_lab_qa_1.sh's dead
/p4/sdp/test/sdp_test_suite.sh reference: a hook for a
planned-but-never-built Gen6 Jenkins-automation feature. The real Gen6

alias, then ./run_all_tests.sh by hand) -- unversioned specifically so
it wouldn't confuse Battle School students exploring ~perforce/.bashrc.sabotage() dispatcher is fully generic --
adding a new lab (qa_build) requires zero core Lab Engine changes.
Also confirmed (by reading run_all_tests.sh directly) that it's a

SDP's own multi-server scripts against the real 5-server topology, and
is already kept current via the existing insitu sync -- correcting a
wrong assumption baked into yesterday's SDP-QA-LabEnvironment.adoc.prep_for_qa.sh now idempotently deploys a
versioned qa alias into ~perforce/.bashrc (only ever landing on a
genuine QA lab); bsw_lab_qa_1.sh lost its dead reference; new
labscripts/qa_build/bsw_lab_qa_build_1.sh runs the same setup and then

propagated) for Jenkins. New data/qa_build/Intro.html; fixed a stale

as change 2762646.docs/BSW-LabDeveloperGuide.adoc in full -- it already existed
as a section-heading-only skeleton, which turned out to be the source of
the user's from-memory description of the lab-creation pattern. Filled
in using the qa/qa_build labs as the worked example. Submitted as
change 2762647.docs/SDP-QA-LabEnvironment.adoc to reflect the resolved gap
and the ITS/run_all_tests.sh correction. Submitted as change 2762648.//BattleSchool/Gen7-side session logs written and submitted
(2762653, isolated ai/ changelist per that stream's convention).Digression, captured but not started: the user flagged that
//BattleSchool/Gen7 is a dev stream that will eventually be promoted to
//BattleSchool/main (retiring Gen6, unlike which -- Gen6 shipped
directly from main, so this promotion has no precedent in this Streams
structure). Two tasks captured: audit for hardcoded //BattleSchool/Gen7
path references (scoped to both that stream and cross-depot, e.g. here in
//test-install_sdp and in //p4-sdp), and define the promotion process
itself plus Gen8 dev-stream creation steps. Important coordination detail
from the user: //test-install_sdp on the Public Depot currently only has
its dev stream active (though main stream metadata already exists) --
the Gen7→main promotion and this depot's own dev→main promotion will
need to be coordinated, order-of-promotion included.
Session ending for the day per the user. Both qa/qa_build gap and the
lab-creation documentation gap are now closed. Carried into next session: the
Gen7-to-main promotion audit/process work (tasks #23/#24, not started), and
the still-open broader question of what else "SDP QA readiness" for 2026.1
requires (per the user, likely little to nothing beyond what's now done).

## Summary
New day, picking up from `SessionLog-2026-08-18.md`. All of today's concrete
work happened in `//BattleSchool/Gen7` (PPN server) -- see
`//BattleSchool/Gen7/ai/session-log-2026-08-19.md` for full detail. Closed out
yesterday's open gap (`bsw_lab_qa_1.sh`'s dead test-suite reference) with a new
`lab qa_build` mechanism, filled in a previously-empty lab-creation guide, and
captured a new not-yet-started task around the eventual Gen7-to-main promotion.
## Where Things Stand
- **Task 1 (SDP Installer Test Suite): complete.**
- **Task 2 (prepare SDP-QA-Gen7): in progress, meaningfully advanced today.**
The `bsw_lab_qa_1.sh` gap flagged yesterday is resolved: `lab qa` stays
manual (now easier, via a versioned `.bashrc` alias), and a new
`lab qa_build` does the same setup plus a full unattended test-suite run,
suitable for a Jenkins trigger. `docs/BSW-LabDeveloperGuide.adoc` (which
turned out to already exist as an empty skeleton) is now fully written up.
`docs/SDP-QA-LabEnvironment.adoc` updated to match, with a correction to an
assumption made in yesterday's version of that doc.
- **New, not started**: auditing for hardcoded `//BattleSchool/Gen7` path
references (ahead of an eventual promotion to `//BattleSchool/main`) and
defining that promotion process, coordinated with `//test-install_sdp`'s
own eventual `dev`→`main` promotion on the Public Depot server.
- Deferred per explicit user direction: "We've Moved" notices (task #11, hold
until very near SDP 2026.1 GA), `cli_tests.cfg` test-coverage gap analysis
(task #14), fleet runtime-variation speculation (task #15).
## Timeline
1. **Task 2 continued in `//BattleSchool/Gen7` (PPN server) -- see
`//BattleSchool/Gen7/ai/session-log-2026-08-19.md` for full detail.**
Summary:
- Got the real story behind `bsw_lab_qa_1.sh`'s dead
`/p4/sdp/test/sdp_test_suite.sh` reference: a hook for a
planned-but-never-built Gen6 Jenkins-automation feature. The real Gen6
flow was always manual (`s1`, then a deliberately *unversioned* `qa`
alias, then `./run_all_tests.sh` by hand) -- unversioned specifically so
it wouldn't confuse Battle School students exploring `~perforce/.bashrc`.
- Confirmed the Lab Engine's `sabotage()` dispatcher is fully generic --
adding a new lab (`qa_build`) requires zero core Lab Engine changes.
Also confirmed (by reading `run_all_tests.sh` directly) that it's a
separate test suite from the SDP Installer Test Suite (ITS), testing the
SDP's own multi-server scripts against the real 5-server topology, and
is already kept current via the existing insitu sync -- correcting a
wrong assumption baked into yesterday's `SDP-QA-LabEnvironment.adoc`.
- Implemented the split: `prep_for_qa.sh` now idempotently deploys a
*versioned* `qa` alias into `~perforce/.bashrc` (only ever landing on a
genuine QA lab); `bsw_lab_qa_1.sh` lost its dead reference; new
`labscripts/qa_build/bsw_lab_qa_build_1.sh` runs the same setup and then
automatically finishes the job (test suite to completion, exit code
propagated) for Jenkins. New `data/qa_build/Intro.html`; fixed a stale
hostname mix in `data/qa/Intro.html`. ShellCheck 0.10.0 clean. Submitted
as change `2762646`.
- Wrote up `docs/BSW-LabDeveloperGuide.adoc` in full -- it already existed
as a section-heading-only skeleton, which turned out to be the source of
the user's from-memory description of the lab-creation pattern. Filled
in using the `qa`/`qa_build` labs as the worked example. Submitted as
change `2762647`.
- Updated `docs/SDP-QA-LabEnvironment.adoc` to reflect the resolved gap
and the ITS/`run_all_tests.sh` correction. Submitted as change `2762648`.
- Both `//BattleSchool/Gen7`-side session logs written and submitted
(`2762653`, isolated `ai/` changelist per that stream's convention).
2. **Digression, captured but not started**: the user flagged that
`//BattleSchool/Gen7` is a dev stream that will eventually be promoted to
`//BattleSchool/main` (retiring Gen6, unlike which -- Gen6 shipped
directly from `main`, so this promotion has no precedent in this Streams
structure). Two tasks captured: audit for hardcoded `//BattleSchool/Gen7`
path references (scoped to both that stream and cross-depot, e.g. here in
`//test-install_sdp` and in `//p4-sdp`), and define the promotion process
itself plus Gen8 dev-stream creation steps. Important coordination detail
from the user: `//test-install_sdp` on the Public Depot currently only has
its `dev` stream active (though `main` stream metadata already exists) --
the Gen7→main promotion and this depot's own `dev`→`main` promotion will
need to be coordinated, order-of-promotion included.
## Wrap-Up
Session ending for the day per the user. Both `qa`/`qa_build` gap and the
lab-creation documentation gap are now closed. Carried into next session: the
Gen7-to-main promotion audit/process work (tasks #23/#24, not started), and
the still-open broader question of what else "SDP QA readiness" for 2026.1
requires (per the user, likely little to nothing beyond what's now done).
